Your Summer Roofing Maintenance Checklist
We’ve reached the unofficial start of summer, and the official day of summer isn’t far behind. But with summer comes a new set of maintenance needs for your roof. Between spring rains and summer storms, your roof still has to put up with a lot, although the severe winter weather is behind us. However, maintaining your roof doesn’t have to be difficult. All you need is a little planning and a great team of roofing contractors. At Budget Exteriors , our team is here to help you maintain your roof and protect your home.
Is your roof ready for summer? Use this checklist from our roofing contractors to maintain your roof this summer.
Clean Gutters and Check for Water Damage
After all the rain this spring, you want to make sure your gutters are draining properly. Clean any leaves, debris, or other gunk out of the gutters and check for cracks or areas of pooling water. If water is pooling rather than draining away, that’s a sign you need to adjust the angle. Replace or repair any sections that are cracked or leaking so water drains away from your home rather than dripping down your siding.
While you’re cleaning and checking your gutters, you should also check the edge of your roof for water damage. Common signs of water damage include warped or curling shingles, mold or moss growth, or rot around the roof deck.
Replace Missing or Damaged Shingles
Ice, high winds, and heavy rain can all damage shingles. Inspect your roof the best you can from the ground or safely on a ladder for missing or damaged shingles. You may not be able to see all areas of your roof from the ground, but you shouldn’t climb on your roof for a better roof. It’s best to leave that to the professional roofing contractors. They have the experience and equipment to climb on and inspect your roof safely.
Trim Nearby Trees and Branches
Having trees in your yard provides welcome shade in the summertime, but you don’t want them too close to your house. Even if none of your trees are in danger of falling, they can still drop leaves and other debris that can clog your gutters and trap moisture on your roof. During storms with high winds, branches can also fall on your roof, causing more severe damage.
